February 4, 2026 Update
While traveling, I was able to complete a square for my Brown Blanket project and start a second. I finished the second shortly after I got home.
I've also jumped back into learning how to spin. I think this one will take a while to learn—spin consistency comes from experience and repetition. While I'm home, I've been giving it a good 15 minutes a day. Hopefully, with some consistency, I'll improve.
Spinning is different from crochet and quilting, which are very procedural. Generally, they involve measuring or counting based on a plan to reach the desired project. Spinning has very little quantitative element to it; you just do it. I enjoy that I don't have to count while I'm doing it, and I don't have to wait for a good place to stop to set down my project for a break.
I have no idea what I'll do with this yarn when I'm done. I don't even know how much yarn I'll have! I have 4 oz of top (or roving? I don't know the difference). I'll spin a 2-ply yarn once I've finished the singles. The yarn might be bad enough that I don't want to do anything with it! It probably won't be consistent enough for crochet, but perhaps I can use it as a weft to make some organic/artistic weaving.
Oh, and surprise—I'm traveling again. So if the post date and the title don’t match, it’s the time zones. I’ll keep working on crafts, thought. I brought some yarn with me to work on the September squares of my Brown Blanket!
